Description



Antique tobacco card hunters follow the trail to this late-19th Century collection. Filled mostly with captivating “N” cards graced with alluring ladies, this lot of (50) all different 1880s-1890s types is well worth the chase. This well-preserved assortment presents above average to better with generally clean surfaces and sharp images.

 

Highlights are:

 

A10 Allen & Ginter Album “General Government and State Capitol Buildings of the United States”, measuring 6 x 9-1/4” this appealing album was issued in conjunction with the N14 series of tobacco cards with the same name, complete with twine binding this 1889 edition houses (13) pages with spaces for all fifty cards in the series, between pleasing covers that show moderate age-appropriate wear, including a 1-1/2 x 3/4” section of surface loss on the back cover at the top border, leading to a rating of (GD) with pages that present much better

 

HM6 Goodwin “Old Judge” mechanical trade card measuring 3-3/4 x 4-1/2” folded, with a die-cut cover in the form of an umbrella with a tip that slips into a slot on the opposite card section, the umbrella portion is stamped with period advertising for a local tobacco shop, the cover opens to a scene captioned “An Interesting Interview” with a dour faced man administering a switch beating to youngster, the back cover is printed with a redemption ad for Old Judge “Base Ball Players” cabinet photos, creasing occurs at three corners and there is a small hole at center of the main section, however this fantastic, seldom seen piece remains very pleasing with GD detail

 

N182 Kimball “Ballet Queens” partial set of (26/50) average (GD to VG) with 20% lesser, including (3) with minor traces of surface loss on reverse only

N152 “Photographs from Life”: (5) cards with (1) Lilly Langtry average (GD to VG) with deference to a very small pinhole on each

 

N66 Old Judge and Dogs Head “Occupations for Women”: (1) card (GD)

 

N246 “Actresses and Celebrities”: (1) Type 1: Isabella Irving (GD); and (1) Type 2 Louise Dillon (VG) with deference to a very small pinhole

 

N308 Mayo Cut Plug “Naval Uniforms”: (5) cards (VG-EX, (2) GD, FR and (1) with surface loss on reverse)

 

N353 Consols “Ladies of the White House”: (3) all present VG to VG-EX on the obverse, but reverses are affected by traces of residue/surface loss

 

N446 D.E. Rose “Imperial Cards”: (5) cards average (GD to VG) with deference to light traces of residue on reverse, but no surface loss
