Description

Collectors will recognize this batting pose from
card #838 in the 1993 Sporting News "Conlon Collection" set. And given the intertwined history of Cobb and Conlon in the most famous baseball photo of all time ("Cobb Sliding"), ANY Conlon/Cobb Type I originals are desirable rarities demanding princely sums. This iconic beauty from the A's period measures 6-1/2 x 8-1/2" and boasts spectacular image clarity of Cobb's focused expression and the bat in his grip. A reverse stamping by Underwood & Underwood indicates the known practice of U&U occasionally distributing Conlon's images. As a point of reference on value, it's worth noting that a similar Conlon shot of Cobb with the Tigers sold at auction in 2015 for $2,750. Surface crazing throughout and general peripheral wear from newsroom usage.
