Two years ago, a 1947 Robinson Type I photo (used for his 1948 Leaf rookie card) sold at auction for $360,000. With the skyrocketing trajectory of the photo sector, it won't be long before a 1947 Robinson example sells for a million. This one is particularly significant because it hails from the Sporting News archive and depicts the barrier-breaking moment when Jackie received his ROY award. A handwritten editorial notation on reverse reads, "Brooklyn Welcome Dodgers / 9-26-47 / J.G. Taylor Spink (need I mention this) presenting Jackie Robinson with the Sporting News Rookie of the Year Award on steps of Brooklyn Boro Hall." The 8x10 photo bears routine peripheral crazing/creasing that includes a diagonal crease at upper left. Encapsulated as Type I by PSA/DNA.
