Concluding his seven-year tenure in Pittsburgh with his second MVP honor, 27-year-old Barry Bonds was up to 176 career home runs – an impressive, yet not jaw-dropping total like the 340 he hit after the age of 35. Pre-dating the alleged performance-enhancing creams/injections, gaudy statistics and (literally) swollen head, this bat was used and autographed by Bonds during his last two seasons at Three Rivers Stadium. The Louisville Slugger (33-3/4”, 31.8-oz) “H238” block-letter (last name only) model was turned during the 1991-1992 labeling period. Graded GU-9 by PSA/DNA, the white ash lumber shows excellent game use with ball and stitch impressions on all sides of the barrel, as well as black-ink transfers from ONL baseballs. The handle is home to light pine-tar residue and a crack measuring approximately five inches, while there is grain swelling and checking near the barrel stampings. Between the center brand and barrel stampings, Bonds has signed in black marker (“7-8” strength). Inscriptions of “#24” appear on both the knob and cupped end. Accompanying is a full photo LOA from John Taube, PSA/DNA (attesting to the bat’s use), as well as a cert/sticker from ACE (for autograph authenticity).
